Weird Era ☂ Like Rabbits

~Behind our houses the forest throws a tantrum~

I absolutely LOVE posting about these guys, if you’ve been a long time frequenter of this blog you’ll know that Manchester’s Weird Era is one of my favorite shoegaze guitar bands out there. The amount of material this band pumps out is absolutely astonishing, not to mention that the band usually only treats the songs as rough demos and that they aren’t anything special. But I cant stress how amazing some of those “rough demos” are.. I walk around AT LEAST 4 out of 7 days a week with Weird Era songs like ”Dead and Buried”, “Toy Tombstone”, “Dark Prince”, “Starbully” and “Sourpuss” on constant rotation in my head.. And I cannot complain one bit about it.
Usually when I post Weird Era songs I showcase the band’s sullen dreamy 90’s alternative esque shoegaze style but this time around I’m trying something a little different.. ”Like Rabbits” has more of a darker 80’s almost Cold Wave oriented style, similar to bands like The Chameleons, The WakeAsylum Party or Modern Era(obviously no relation). The pounding drums in this track really gives this track the extra punch it needs, you’ll also find that some of the vocals are layered with soft screaming takes underneath. In this particular mix the soft little sceams gives the clean vocals this static-like white noise effect. The first third of the song is definitely my favorite but the song takes various new shapes throughout and it wouldnt be Weird Era if it weren’t thoroughly inspired and enjoyable.
This track is available on CRAWLSPACE(one of two albums the band released this week), and is available by request only currently.
