FALSE ✹ Heavy As A Church Tower
~Writhing altars and living effigies~
I’m writing on this sunday evening in a particularly foul mood, but that is an especially good thing for you in this instance.
THIS track was exactly what the doctor ordered; blindingly vile black metal from Minneapolis band FALSE. This beautifully grim epic of a song is seventeen minutes long and had me hooked from the second I hit play.
“Heavy as a church tower” definitely reminds me of Colorado Black Metal wizards Nightbringer but considering how much I absolutely adore Nightbringer’s music if I were False I would consider that one big ass compliment. I would honestly consider this to be one of my favorite black metal songs in recent years and definitely in my top 3 black metal music posts I’ve done for Strange Fires.
Everything about this track is stunning; the awesome structural transitions, grating hateful guitar composition, effective yet subtle synth work, the nimble(but also violently sludgy) drumming and of course the putrid shrieking vocals that really are the crowning jewel of the song.
This band was eagerly recommended to me by Logan from the brilliant electro doom duo Curse who I met at their rhinoceropolis show a few weeks back and after listening to this track over and over for the last 2 hours or so I can genuinely say I owe him a bottle of whisky now.
If you dig any kind of metal, set twenty minutes aside to listen to this amazing song. and then go download it Bandcamp for a price of your choice.
